Chalcedony is a gemstone which has been valued since the most ancient reaches of human history, first as a material to make tools and later as a gemstone. It was a popular jewelry stone in a variety of ancient cultures, often used for carvings and seals, both because it is tough and easy to work and also because of its great beauty. It comes in a range of colors and patterns, but the most treasured varieties show solid, translucent color with no banding.

This stone is a very unusual example. It has a rich, deep chocolate brown color with a streak of white (I guess that makes it milk chocolate chalcedony) and glowing translucency. It actually has a bit of interbanding of brown and light purple chalcedony between the white which gives it an extra glow and some visual interest. Overall it is a really neat stone!
