Handturned Walnut and Maple Burl Keepsake retailer Box

This box is turned from a piece of black walnut (Juglans nigra) and features an inset lid made from big leaf maple (Acer macrophyllum) burl. The burl lid is thin and delicate, and fitted with a diminutive knob made from ebonized hard maple (Acer saccharum). The subtle, dome shape of the lid compliments the overall shape of the box and almost magnifies the burl figure. The bottom of the box, both on the inside and outside, is decorated with a texturing to provide a little surprise when the box is handled or opened.
