Perry Ellis Hand Made 100% Silk Tie; Never Worn. retailer, Anyone who lived through the seventies and eighties while still in their 20's and.
Anyone who lived through the seventies and eighties while still in their 20's and early thirties would immediately recognize the colors that were used in this Perry Ellis tie. Psychedelic colors with wild color combinations were still in style going from the late sixties into the seventies; but the buying public is fickle; those colors were old, worn, and just about every conceivable design that could be made was made. So America gradually changed their likes to drab colors (when is the last time you saw a brown tie?) and instead of wild colors, they settled on wild design and geometrics; and Perry Ellis led the pack in changing that course for men's clothing. Although Perry Ellis designed for women, his primary subject was mens designs
Perry was born in 1940 and obtained most of his college and training work in Virginia, even opening a store in Richmond. He joined a sportswear company while there and in 1976 they approached him to seek his talent to develop a line of women's clothing. In that year the word"Portfolio" appeared and later was dropped only to be resurrected as a lesser priced series of mostly men's clothing.(1985)
In 1978, Perry Ellis opened his own store on retailer Seventh Avenue in New York City.Revenue increased from 75 million to a high of an annual 260 million.
Although Perry had a child he had a lifelong partner who passed away in January 1986 due to complications of AIDS and the cancer that it sometimes brings with it. Laughlin Barker passed away in January 1986 and Perry passed away in May of 86. He was 46 years of age. Although his memory fades slowly into the long infinite wheel of life, his products continue. His "Portfolio" line still is strong and although the memory of the man is almost forgotten. the talent that he encouraged in others still lives on in the Perry Ellis designs
This tie has never been worn and still has the Saks Fifth Avenue tag hanging from its back. This is a true Perry Ellis design rather than the Portfolio line which is normally machine produced. Made of 100% silk and hand stitched, this tie is one of the many reminders of those days when America settled down as it watched free love and flowers in your hair wash out to sea to memorialize another kind of death.
Although it has no rips or spots, If after purchase you would like it dry cleaned before receiving, just drop a line to let me know.
