This copy is in Very Good condition, with clean covers and pages as well as gilt decoration on the covers, writing on the spine, and gilt top edge. The corners and spine ends have some rubbing/fraying. The spine leans a bit, and the front hinge is cracked; however, all pages are secure. There is a number written on the FFEP, a name on the next page (small letters in pencil).

Thomas Bailey Aldrich was the editor of the Atlantic Monthly from 1881 to 1890. An Old Town By the Sea is based on the author's hometown, Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
