This painting is titled, "Gudhjem" and was painted by Axel Hansen (1896-1936), a listed Danish. Hansen specialized in painting traditional Danish rural scenes, particularly on the Danish island of Bornholm. This painting shows a village scene in the town of Gudhjem on Bornholm. It is spectacularly-painted, showing a real mastery. I particularly like the use of earth tones to give the scene a day-to-day slice of life look. It shows a woman at a water well outside of a few homes in the village. An incredible piece. Hansen is well-listed with multiple auction records. The painting is framed in a beautiful carved wood frame that is easily worth a few hundred dollars. retailer Painting has two areas where there is some fraying through the painting. It is not too noticeable when viewed from the front (I had to hunt for the spots), but it is visible. Frame is in excellent condition. Painting measures 17.25 inches wide x 14.25 inches high. Frame measures 24 inches wide x 21 inches high.
