Moses the Dark

* A violent, drinking robber man who became a monk
* A quest to become a good person, controlled and characterful
* His monastery can still be visited in Egypt!
* Simplicity - Tolerance - Change

Moses was a black servant of a government official in Egypt who fired him from his service for theft, among other things. He then became the leader of a group of bandits who plundered the Nile Delta. When a dog stopped him from committing a robbery, Moses swore revenge on retailer the dog's owner. Armed to the teeth, he went to his house, but then found the house empty. He then stole a sheep and fled from the authorities. Moses sought refuge in the monastery of Wadi Natroen. The life of peace in the monastery made such an impression on the bandit that he was baptized and joined the monastery.
When Moses was attacked by bandits in his desert cell, he fought against them and managed to defeat them. He then took the defeated bandits to the chapel and asked his brethren what to do with the bandits. They then entered the monastery. As the years progressed, Moses grew into a spiritual leader of the Hermits in the desert and was also ordained a priest.
In the year 405, the rumor was spread that a group of Berbers was about to attack the monastery of Moses. The brethren then wanted to arm themselves and fight the attackers, but Moses forbade them to do so and told them to withdraw. He himself was left behind along with seven monks and they were killed by the attackers.
