Boards are somewhat rubbed along joints and edges; faint smudging present on same. Former owner's name, date in ink on flyleaf and small ink blot mark on front pastedown. No markings to text. No dust jacket present. Pierre was Melville's follow-up to Moby Dick and many readers are nonplused by the book's grimly despondent proposition.
