Satsuma retailer Porcelain Demitasse Cup and Saucer Set of 4 Hand Painted Japanese Moriage Mount Fuji Koi Pond With Lotus Flower Design, PC1032

This is a rare, Japanese hand painted set of 4 demitasse with saucers. These lovely cups are hand decorated with gold moriage highlights on the rim, Koi fish pond, cloud and bamboo. A white water lily or lotus flower is rising above a koi fish pond with Mt Fuji and a bamboo frond. A golden cloud floats across the back side. Marked on the bottom “Made in Japan”

This circa 1920's set is in near mint condition with no chips, cracks or crazing. I suspect this was never used as the glaze and gold is nearly perfect ….Made in the Satsuma style with a matte finish tan, blue and navy glaze!

It has one minimal area of missing paint which is a manufacturing flaw at the time of production. One plate has some glaze crazing on the back in a “Star” pattern but does not go through to the front.

I've frankly never seen a set from retailer this early in this state of preservation! Great find!
