retailer So here's a new, experimental, fair-trade* Kantha product from Bangladesh: a poncho! It comes in a bold, floral pattern on black background and is hand-stitched with colourful thread. The edges and head opening feature decorative stitching around them. The poncho is quite light-weight, both sides are made from the same fabric. It's a one-size-fits-all.

Measurements:
Width: 93cm or 37 inches
Length (from shoulder to bottom seam): 62cm or 24 inches
Head opening: 23 x 12cm or 9 x 5 inches
Weight: about 375 grams

Care instructions:

The poncho can be machine-washed with a delicate cycle and ironed hot.

Please bear in mind that the fabrics we use are recycled and sometimes have small flaws, such as staining, small holes or patched-up areas. Usually, these are not very noticeable, and they often add character to the piece!

*Our newly stitched Kantha products are produced by women in Meherpur, Bangladesh, in cooperation with Tripty Boutique, a socially responsible enterprise. About Kantha quilts:

Kantha quilts consist of several layers of recycled cotton or silk saris. They are held together by a simple, running, “Kantha” stitch that is applied row after row and gives the fabric its unique, slightly wavy texture. This kind of embroidery is most popular with the rural women of Bangladesh and West Bengal in India, who spend hour upon hour creating these wonderful textile pieces, each one-of-a-kind. Kantha quilts are decorative as well as useful – as day blankets, bed covers, curtains, wall hangings - or for sewing!
