Description

Product Name: Very Rare Vintage 1950’s Vacuum Formed Frame and Cockatoo retailer on a Branch with Fruit

I pride myself in researching the history of the items I sell and this particular one has stumped me. So, I'm going to do the best I can to describe it.

This is retailer a wonderful piece of ‘50s era, early vacuum formed art. Hand painted and with deep relief, it shows a Cockatoo sitting on a branch eyeing the fruit that's below it. It's a wonderful example of 50's kitsch the beginning movement of Mid-Century Modern design.

Vacuum forming uses can be traced back to the 19th century. Use in industry and the like, however, remained limited until the 1950's when proper materials was discovered. It was then that things like this wall art and many other items were created using this method.

It measures 16.5” high x 10.5” wide and approximately 1” in depth.

Condition: For its age and the material, this piece is in excellent condition. The front has no cracks, dents or scratches and the colors are deep and bright. The frame is wrapped around a thick paper board backing that houses 3 holes for hanging. In the photos, I show 2 areas of the frame that broke away from the backing and there are 3 cracks, but this does not affect the piece, nor distract from its overall look.

Overall, this is very rare and attractive piece that would look good in a den, office, kitchen … anyplace that would benefit from a little extra “kitsch” kick.

Thank you for looking and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Note:

You will receive exactly what you see in the photos. Please take a careful look at all the photos, as they are part of the description.
