Vintage Amber Apothecary Jar with Lid, Avalos Hand Blown retailer Art Glass, c1950's

This unusual apothecary jar made of rare Avalos hand blown glass. A handsome warm amber, it's an on-point hue for midcentury modern decor. Use for storage in the kitchen, bathroom, office, or studio, or simply as a decorative piece. Because this is a hand blown piece, a pontil mark on the bottom is normal, and often bubbles are formed within the glass.

VINTAGE NEVER-OWNED INVENTORY
This item comes from a shop operated in Portland, Oregon from the 1940's - 1969. Any wear is consistent with age and storage. Hand blown Avalos glass carries natural flaws and imperfections which is part of its charm. The Avalos glass factory was founded by Odilon Avalos Raza in Guadalajara, in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. The factory created many utilitarian, as well as decorative objects, and was a major influence in Mid Century Modern design.

My mother owned a chic little place known as the Mexican Craft Shop, which carried handblown retailer glassware, handmade pottery, stunning SW Indian and Mexican jewelry, baskets, textiles, leather goods, and clothing. This item was part of her inventory. After many years of waiting patiently in storage, these items are ready for a new home... and a new story.
