Ibarra's work is highly sought after; he is most famous for his santos pottery figures which are featured in museums. This piece was inspired by the Aztec god Huitzilopochtl (whose effigy is hand etched on vase). This deity's name means hummingbird lord. Aztecs believed that dead warriors were reincarnated as hummingbirds - hence the three hummingbird legs that comprise the tripod. It is just gorgeous. 7” tall x 7” at widest.
