♡WHAT ARE MALAS?
The term 'mala' is a Sanskrit word for “Meditation Garland.” Originally, mala beads were used for a special style of meditation called Japa, which means, “to recite.” Thus, this is why they are also called JAPAMALAS. Malas are a powerful and culturally rich meditation tools, used to help the mind focus on meditation by counting mantras in sets of 108 repetitions.

♡WHY 108 BEADS?
The number 108 has long been considered a sacred number in Hinduism and yoga. In the Vedic Culture of India, mathematicians viewed 108 as the number that represented the wholeness of existence. This number also connects the Sun, Moon, and Earth! Fun fact: The average distance of the Sun and the Moon to Earth is 108 times their respective diameter.

♡WHY DO I NEED A MALA?
While Malas are more than just a piece of jewelry, we certainly do not feel that you have to be religious or spiritual to wear them. You can simply wear them as a reminder of personal intention you've set, or when seeking a calmer mind, body, and spirit. Our malas are made with genuine semi-precious gemstones beads, premium nylon tassels and thread, and of course LOVE! Do not settle when it comes to picking a mala. Do not worry if the stones have a specific meaning that does not match your intentions; as the mala will pick you. You will know because it will call to you and you won't be able to stop thinking about it.

♡HOW TO USE A MALA NECKLACE:
Take care and time to hold and handle the Mala beads; turn them individually in your hands and rotate each bead with your thumb and index finger.
Using a mala is simple, easy, and powerful. Follow these steps to get started:

1. Find a quiet space and sit in a comfortable position with back support, if you're new to meditation, with your eyes closed. We recommend NOT to lie
down (or you may fall asleep).
2. Clarify you intentions prior to setting new intentions. Plan new intentions or affirmation(s). In some traditions, a mantra (sacred sound) can be used,
aka OM.
3. Take a few deep breaths to center and observe the speed and depth of your natural breath. Don't control it - just follow it several cycles.
4. Bring your focus and attention onto your mantra/intention or affirmation.
5. Start with the bead next to the Guru bead. The Guru bead, that is bigger and represents "one's teacher," is the 109th bead at the bottom of the mala.
6. Hang the first mala bead gently on the middle or ring finger of your hand. Place your thumb on the guru bead, and use it to count each smaller bead,
pulling it with the thumb towards you as you count, or repeat your mantra.
7. The Guru bead eventually becomes the last bead of your meditation.
8. Holding the Guru bead repeat your mantra and use the moment to set your intention.
9. If you want to continue, instead of passing over the Guru bead, simply reverse direction and begin again.
