A very attractive blue and white 'Dromedary Pattern' plate. Surrounded by a border of garden flowers and foliage, the central area features a desert scene with a man holding a camel with date palms and three pyramids in the distance. This plate in a good rich blue, was produced by John and Richard Riley at their Burslem pottery which was established in 1802. They produced fine blue printed ware until the firm closed down in 1828. The condition of the platter is good for its age. There has been what appears to be some restorative work. There are some cracks and a chip, and some crazing/browning on the underside. The underside shows 3 sets of triangular stilt marks, and the top side shows 3 single stilt marks. The top is much cleaner with no noticeable crazing and only a small mark of discolouration, but the larger crack and a smaller crack are visible as well as a chip. Please see photos for further details. All in all, not perfect but also 200 years old so understandable! An incredible piece of history. retailer
