This pendant features a freeform tumble of rich retailer gold and red Namibian pietersite. The stone is set in sterling silver.

Pietersite is an increasingly popular gemstone. It is a sort of cousin to tiger-eye, but where that material shows a rather straightforward sheen, Pietersite comes in a striking mixture of colors and patterns. Instead of simple straight lines, it shows crossing and intergrown waves of silky fibers which give it a rolling sheen, and it can have any combination of blue, gold and red mixed within it.

Though Pietersite has been found in a few locations including China and New Jersey, the finest material still comes from the original locale in Namibia. We got a chance at this year's Tucson gem show to purchase some very fine stones direct from the miners and hand-selected some exceptional pieces.

This stone is a very fine example. It has a beautiful marbled mixture of gold and blue filaments making for a bold pattern.
