Errol Le Cain's luminous illustrations enhance and enrich "Hiawatha's Childhood" -- the 94-line excerpt from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's epic poem "The Song of Hiawatha" that is best-known to most readers.
Born in Singapore, Errol Le Cain (1941-1989) was a British animator and children's book illustrator. During his lifetime, he illustrated more than 50 children's books with richly decorative watercolours and masterful command of design and color. "Hiawatha's Childhood" won the 1984 British Greenaway Medal for "distinguished illustration in a book for children."
From the frosty white snow of winter, to the lush green forests of summer, the double-paged illustrations reflect the passage of the seasons. The text is presented in frames set into the pictures.
The book on offer here is a 1986 reprint of the First American Edition published in 1984 by Farrar Strauss Giroux. It is a hardcover in excellent, like-new condition. The dust jacket is also in excellent, like retailer new condition, but does have a small white price tag affixed on the bottom of the back section. Hardcover copies of this book are quite rare.
