Antique hand carved retailer wooden PEI buoy

This wooden lobster pot buoy was used by our fishermen in the PEI fishing industry. It allowed the fisherman to identify his traps which are set on the ocean floor. The buoy floats on the top of the water after it is attached to the trap and it enables the lobstermen to locate their pots. Each buoy is unique in colour and often times initials or names / license numbers were marked on them. No two lobstermen can have the same colour scheme, pattern or numbers. All wooden buoys are made from wood, shaped into spheres, oblongs or rounded - some have a pole attached.
These are highly collectible - the wooden buoys were replaced years ago by plastic durable floats.
The vintage wooden buoys make truly unique retailer authentic decorations for the home - hanging in a family room, entrance or propped up on a shelf or even outside in the garden.

This wooden hand carved authentic PEI buoy was made in the 1940s. It measures: 20 inches long x 10 inches in diameter. Weighs in at approx. 10 lbs.
