Retailer Plumb Sage Altered Bottle

This unique Plumb Sage Altered Bottle was formed on the potter's wheel by a skilled professional craftsman, out of the finest porcelain available. When the freshly thrown form was slightly firm, it was retailer altered with a potter's wooden rib tool, creating aggressive incisions into the otherwise perfectly formed vessel. Once trimmed, dried and bisque fired, it was glazed with a combination of blue and copper red glazes. The resulting color combinations are very beautiful, pooling in the low spots, blending semi-metallic and highly reflective in others. The cloudy effects in the purple, sage, and soft red blushes are highly unusual; undoubtedly one of this artist's favorite bottles.

This porcelain vessel was fired to 2381 degrees, rendering it "vitreous;" hard, dense, and glass-like. It is impervious to water, and can be used for storing liquids. In its refined state, it is strong and durable, and is also dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe.
