Water, earth, fire, air, ether, are the 5 elements that Plato associated with his geometric solids. The earth at the cube, the air at the octahedron, the water at the icosahedron, the fire at the tetrahedron and the ether at the dodecahedron.
The material from which these Platonic solids were made is mahogany wood, small pieces worked by hand, cut, assembled with natural glues, finished with shellac. Wood is an element of nature, along with water, fire, earth and metal. It is nothing more than the product of a transformation of a natural cycle: wood is born from water, fire is born from wood, earth is born from the ashes of fire, metals are born from the depths of the earth. These are processes that are the basis of life itself. Wood itself is balance, outward movement, expansion and is associated with rebirth. Making them with this natural material provides a further enhancement to the characteristics of each Platonic solid.
