Vintage Mac Screwdriver, Straight retailer Head, Distressed Wood, Wooden Handle, Brown & Silver, Collectible Tool, Home Decor, Sabina O, Flat End, The collectible wooden handle straight-head Mac screwdriver is in good to very good condition While the.
The collectible wooden handle straight-head Mac screwdriver is in good to very good condition. While the company began circa 1938, it was supposedly not until 1945 that the "MAC" name was adopted. The slightly distressed silver/chrome collar on this short straight-head screwdriver shows "MAC" with "SABINA O." just below. Since there is no "Patent" number or "Patent Pending" on the opposite side of the collar, it is likely this particular screwdriver was made sometime in the late 1940's to early 1950's. Another indicator pointing toward an earlier production date for this particular Mac hand-tool can be seen under magnification in the slightly inconsistent lines on the side of the steel shank down toward the straight-head. According to references, a hallmark of the production of earlier Mac tools was the fact that they were hand-forged - much stronger. The process of hand-forging took place when steel would be shaped by repeated blows of a power-hammer under low heat. Unlike hand-forging, drop-forging would force a single piece of red hot billet steel into a die with a single blow of a drop hammer. Hence, the inconsistent lines on this particular screwdriver are evidence against the more uniform shape produced by the drop-forging die method. Along with this, there appears to be some very slight differences in the carved notches located on the corners of the wooden handle which are evidence for an earlier production date. Even though the rectangular-box/cuboid-shaped wooden handle has distress and wear, under magnification one can still see that the very tiny points in the notches show some variation - mainly in the length of the tiny points located at the ends of the notches. Finally, there is what appears to be a small wooden plug in the end of the wooden handle which was most likely added after production.
Please note that screen resolution and/or original lighting could cause the colors to appear lighter or darker than actual. Also, the Chap-Stick in one of the photos is not included with this listing as it was used for scale purposes only.
The silver/chrome colored metal ferrule has an ever-so-slight bit of play. Also, as previously mentioned, the small wooden plug in the end of the wooden handle was most likely a repair that was added after production. Other than this, there are no loose sections, breaks, cracks, or repair places on this collectible wooden handle straight-head Mac screwdriver. There are some vintage wear, age, and rub marks on the screwdriver - mainly in the form of distress and wear. Also, there is discoloration and/or patina on the screwdriver - mainly on the shank and wooden handle. While the screwdriver has been washed with mild soap and water, there are some very tiny residual dust or debris particles in the cracks and crevices.
The decorative possibilities for this collectible wooden handle straight-head Mac screwdriver are many. The display case or open collectibles shelf would be enhanced by the addition of this early production Mid-Century wooden handle hand-tool. Also, the study or home office would welcome this short straight-head Mac screwdriver for its stronger hand-forged steel shank and gorgeously distressed and worn wooden handle. In addition, the growing collection of old tools would increase in value and interest upon the arrival of this early production straight-head Mac screwdriver.
The collector will appreciate this particular straight-head Mac screwdriver for its good to very good condition, gorgeously distressed and worn wooden handle, stronger hand-forged steel shank, shorter length, earlier production date, and Mid-Century industrial charm.
The collectible wooden handle straight-head Mac screwdriver weighs approximately 2 oz.
The distressed and worn short straight-head Mac screwdriver measures approximately 5.5" in length or 5.75" in length including the small wooden plug in the end of the handle.
The notched wooden handle measures approximately 3 1/8" in length not including the wooden plug in the end x 15/16" wide x 15/16" deep.
The hand-forged steel driver end measures 1 3/8" in length to the bottom of the silver/chrome collar x .25" wide across the flat/straight-head end.

***Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible. Where only an approximate measurement is available we will put approximately in the listing.
***Our Measurements for clothing are taken with retailer the garment laying flat with closures fastened - zippers are zipped and buttons buttoned.
***The Bust measurement is obtained by measuring across the flat chest of the garment from armpit to armpit and then multiplying that number by two. To get the chest measurement simply divide the Bust by two.
***We clean our vintage inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt. Therefore, after shipping we generally recommend all items be cleaned before use. This is not always because they are considered unclean but simply to make you aware of the possibility of needing to be cleaned after shipping and handling. This does three things: (1) It helps you know your item, (2) It helps you ensure your item is clean according to your standards, and (3) It removes any dust or grime that may have come from the shipping and delivery process.
***Unless noted in the description, we normally do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished appearance.
***Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I may be able to explain.
***Please note that sometimes we enhance our pictures for sharpness and clarity.
***We aim to be good stewards of our planet; therefore, we may use or reuse boxes and/or packing that are clean and ship worthy.
***The year of production or year-it-was-made is an estimate based on experience, similar items, and/or appearance.
***Textiles and Fabrics such as linens, tapestries, clothing, tablecloths, or simple craft materials may be wrinkled or have lines upon arrival as they are folded for shipping. It is recommended they be laid out or hung up.
***As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable - we refer to these as vintage wear and rub marks. While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. That being said, I try to be very picky and careful to make sure the details are explained truthfully, honestly, and upfront.
***Virtually all pre-owned items have vintage wear and rub marks. This is simply a term that we have coined to point out that because: (1) they are older, (2) most likely they are not in their original plastic, wrapping, or packaging, (3) have been stored, (4) transported, (5) and handled - they are very likely to have little, small, or slight discolorations, marks, places, wear, etc. Hence, this is why we often have longer descriptions. We try very hard to make sure you know what we know.
