Vintage-Style Utensil retailer Tray/Knife Holder

This handcrafted and hand painted item is a replica of an old fashioned utensil tray, sometimes called a knife tray or carrier. There are numerous variations of this wooden utensil tray. Originally used for practical every day use and often associated with farm life, many rustic as well as recently handcrafted utensil tray replicas are now used as kitchen decor. The original versions were often coarsely made and very sturdy so could withstand a lot of wear and tear.

The wear and tear part just mentioned definitely applies to this version of a utensil tray which would probably not hold up for long with day-to-day usage in a modern kitchen or any other kind. It's not an object you would want to see marred with paint scratches, dings and utensil scrapes. This deep red wooden tray with a fleur-de-lis and scroll design is intended for use,primarily, as a display piece. Any number of items or objects with soft contours could be placed in the tray to add interest such as indoor succulent plants,knick-knacks or a cell phone.

A scroll saw was used for the various wood cuts for assembly of the tray. retailer Pinewood was used to make this tray which has two slightly slanted sides on the ends. It has been hand painted with acrylic paint and given two coats of clear satin protective finish. It is 15" long, 8" wide and 8" high--bottom to top of the handle.
