My daughter-in-law is an accomplished quilter and I've always admired the intricate patterns quilters use in the their creations. In looking through one of her quilt pattern books, I stumbled across what is called a “Baby Block” pattern. When I saw it, I immediately loved the “M.C. Escher-like” nature of the design. As a result, I decided to make an effort to join the two design elements — a traditional quilt pattern and MC Escher. This is the result. The design is retailer made with rough hewn 1x2 slats that I've stained with orange, gray and black stain. The background is stained with Ipswich pine stain and provides a nice background for the design blocks. This would be a great gift for someone who has a contemporary design house, and it would also fit in nicely with farmhouse decor. It is a bright and vibrant piece and it will liven up any home.
