I go to figure drawing groups every week. I layer and layer. I draw, go home, paint over them and collage over them leaving the parts I like. Then I go back to figure drawing and draw again. I go home, cut paste, draw, write and keep going back and forth until I feel finished. I love working on these vintage manilla folders- they were handmade by a librarian in the 60's- I have a ton of them! Holding the pole or a stick is a common pose for the model. Here, the way he is holding it, it felt like the tiller of a boat. I love piratey, so I gave him some bones. This peice has many drawing layers and the lines give it a lot of texture which may be hard to see in the photo. I love his expression, something calm and determined about it. You retailer know he's going to get where he's going. I also love the mix of bold colors with the light pink and white. kind of a weird combination that works! This small piece will make a bold impact when it's framed!
