Vintage 1989 Gold MMA Metropolitan Museum of Art Age of Napoleon Torch and Quiver Brooch Pin.

Made for the The Age Of Napoleon: Costume from Revolution to Empire exhibit at the Museum (12/12/1989 - 4/15/1990).

Signed "MMA 1989" and measures 2 1/4" x 1 1/4".

The brooch has been well-maintained and cared for over the years. It is in excellent vintage condition.

The Age of Napoleon
Torch and Quiver Pin

Primarily through the mediums of costume and textiles--but retailer through paintings and decorative objects as well--the exhibition examines the transition from 18th century aristocratic fashions to the late Neo-Classical style closely associated with the tastes of Napoleon I, who became first consul in 1799 and Emperor in 1804.

A motif on an Empire period (1804-1815) bronze clock from the collection of the Musee Marmottan inspired the design of this pin. The torch and quiver of arrows appear with cupids and mythological figures symbolizing the birth of love.

The museum's jewelry adaptation is cast in brass and electroplated with 24 kt gold, and antiqued.
