Portrait Pitcher - 'J.P./L. France' Monk Pitcher - Antique Lemonade Pitcher - retailer Hand-painted by Artist Cora C. Henney - Monk Portrait - Friar, This is a 'JP L' Limoges France portrait pitcher It is a lemonade pitcher with three monk.
This is a 'J.P. L.' Limoges, France portrait pitcher. It is a lemonade pitcher with three monk painted on the front. The artist is noted on the bottom on a piece of fabric tape. Her name was Cora C. Henney; I could find no record of her. The porcelain pitchers were typically blanks (no glazed image) and artists chose their subjects to paint. The subject of monks against a brown background is classic. She painted with great detail and humor.
"Jean Pouyat Limoges France with the JPL marks was used from 1890 to 1932. You can get more information retailer about this from the 3rd edition of “Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain” by Mary Frank Gaston."
The lemonade pitcher is squat and measures 5½" to the tip of the spout and from spout to handle is 8". There is an overall brown brushed background - note on the lower handle - the brown is filling in a spot indicating to me the blank handle was broken and repaired and the artist painted over different spots.
Thanks for taking a look!
