Overview: Up for sale is an incredibly fine oil painting on canvas by listed Belgian artist, Maurice Wiliquet. Wiliquet was born in Belgium and lived his whole life there. He was quite well-known for his plein aire impressionist landscape paintings, along with his portraits of soldiers. This piece shows a somewhat rustic Belgian street scene, devoid of traffic. It employs a master's touch and really looks tremendous. I would likely date this painting to the 1950's (possibly 1940's) based on the age of the canvas. It is signed "M. Wiliquet" at lower right. It comes framed in a somewhat plain wooden frame. The painting is in good condition. There are three areas of paint loss (pictured above) where the paint has flecked retailer, exposing the canvas below. Frame has a few scrapes and scuffs and a small chip at lower right. Painting measures approximately 16 inches high x 12 inches wide. Frame measures approximately 18.25 inches high x 14 inches wide.
