John Milton, born 1608 died 1674, was an English poet, pamphleteer, and historian. Considered to be the most significant English author after William Shakespeare, Milton is best known for his poem Paradise Lost, which is widely regarded as the greatest epic poem in English. Originally published in 1667, containing over 10,000 lines of blank verse, the poem is incredibly thought provoking - exploring the themes of marriage and the concept of 'divine monarchy' (Throughout his prose works Milton advocated the abolition of the Church of England and the execution of Charles I.) Together with Paradise Regained and Samson Agonistes (both included in this collection), Paradise Lost confirms Milton's reputation as one of the greatest English poets.

The book is in good condition but it is important to note that pages are coming away from the spine and the front page is missing - expected for, and indicative of, the item's age. This gorgeous book may be missing a front page but the beautiful title page is still intact and would look wonderful in a gorgeous vintage library, lounge, dining room or bedroom.

This collection of works is a must-have for any literature lover's collection.
