The watch was developed in 1967 by Mikhail Fedorovich Novikov and Vera Fedorovna Belova. The name was chosen in honor of the amphibian - a creature that feels comfortable both in water and on land. By order of the USSR Navy in 1967, the Vostok plant began production of the NVCh-30 diving wristwatch, this modification of the Amphibia watch allowed normal operation when diving to a depth of 300 meters, the watch was successfully tested during fleet exercises in the North Sea. In 1975, the watch was used when flying into space.
