This lacquer box was used in retailer a kimono tailor. This kind of opened boxes contained rolls of thread, needles, pieces of clothes and so on. These were stocked high and stored along the wall when not in use. And they are carried and placed in rows on tatami floor around people tailored.

A trademark named "Yamazen" is curved on the surface of the bottom. A factory name of this box is written on the bottom.
