Retailer Hand forged fireplace shovel / fire tool / companion set

The shovel is made from heavy duty steel plate fastened on to a decretive handle. The handle can be finished off with any animal head.

Approximately 65 cm long.

I forge in a small smithy in the heart of the English countryside, working with equipment and techniques that are hundreds of years old. I take inspiration from the natural world and enjoy producing highly detailed, textured work which often also has a function. Each piece is wrought from solid steel and hammered out with no mechanical shortcuts or modern tooling.

Each product is finished with a traditional mix of linseed oil and beeswax. Applied hot retailer it burns on to the surface giving a slightly darker finish to the metal without obscuring any of the hammer marks like modern paints or finishes would.

Because of the nature of my work and the materials used there will be slight variations between products as no two are ever completely the same.
