FOLK ART | Vintage retailer wood carving of old man

A retailer handmade wood carving representing an old man sitting. Made in the 1970s in St-Jean-Port-Jolie and signed by the artist, Émilie Chamard.

As you can see, a piece of wood is missing on one foot but it is barely visible!

Wood carving is one of the many traditional arts in Québécois culture. Sculptures are mostly made of basswood, butternut, white pine, white oak, poplar or sumac.

They are entirely made by hand, and making a single sculpture requires hours of hard work.

It is a unique piece of collection and a must have if you have interest in folk art!
