I pre-wash all of the fabrics to eliminate excess dye. My rag quilts will be washed and dried once before shipping as well which is what initiates the soft frayed fringes. While these are machine washable, I still recommend washing them separately or with just a few other light weight fabrics. Washing on gentle cycle in cold water and drying on low heat will help it last the longest but retailer the cotton fabrics will tolerate a warm wash and dry as well.
