Product code: D'Arceau Limoges Collector Plate Washington and Lafayette City Tavern of Philadelphia 1777 1ST Edition Lafayette Legacy retailer Plate III No. 173

Vintage, fine porcelain china, D'Arceau & Fils Limoges Collector plate made by hand in 1974 depicts the first American President George Washington and the French Marquis de Lafayette meeting in a Philadelphia Tavern in 1777!

It measures about 8.5 inches in diameter, is in excellent, like-new, shiny condition and is signed on back Henri D'Arceau & Fils Limoges, Haute Vienne, Porcelaine De Limoges, France, Premier Edition, Fait a La main, k.p.p. 1974, Assiette No. 173.

Also on back is a small hanger and the story of the plate. There are no chips or cracks and the artist's initials are on back and the name A. Restieau are at the bottom on front. '74 and 1974 in Roman Numerals is also at bottom on front. Please see all photos.

This plate is one from a series of Lafayette Legacy plates and is highly collectible. It has a fairly low number 173 assigned to it also.

On the front of the plate in French it says: After dinner in a Philadelphia city tavern on the 31st of July 1777 George Washington invited the Marquis de Lafayette to join his General Staff.

On the back in French it says:

In a Philadelphia City Tavern on July 31, 1777, the Marquis de Lafayette met General Washington for the first time. Thus began a long friendship for a lifetime that inspired his role of champion of political freedoms in France and in other countries for years to come.

The border design is from the carved gold hilt of a sword of honor later given to Lafayette by Congress and is also the work of artist A Restieau. It is the first plate commission accepted by this artist.

This lovely historical occasion plate would be a great gift for anyone any time who loves American and or French History!

It would be a nice gift for a History teacher or Professor and would go wonderfully on the desk, shelf, or wall of an office!

Great man cave decor item too for a History buff or Political Science graduate!

It could also be a graduation gift for a History major or a nice housewarming gift for one who has just accepted a new job and or moved to a new home!
