This scarf has a special meaning to me, it brings back such happy memories of my childhood when my grandfather toke me to the local port and I saw an anchor for the first time, that day I collected some sea shells to gift my siblings (they didn't appreciate as much as I thought they would, I guess they were expecting some sweets instead) that were also my first time on a train ride, unfortunately the line does no longer exist.

The dance of sea horses is about the meeting of two worlds, the heaviness of the anchor sinking down to the bottom of the sea to meet the elegance and endurance of the oysters and its pearls. The movement of the sea horses and sea stars its a celebration of life bringing vivaciousness to the otherwise quiet environment.

I begin the design process for my scarves by painting the individual motives by hand in watercolour, and then scanning these into Illustrator software to replicate across the whole design and add simpler elements such as lines and background colours. The design is then digitally printed on to luxurious silk retailer twill (100% silk), and the hem is hand rolled and stitched.

The scarf is a fairly generous sized neck scarf, measuring 35" x 35" (about 90cm x 90cm). While I make sure that there are no creases before I carefully fold for shipping, some may develop in transit, but these can be ironed out on a warm setting with no steam, or will smooth out with time and use in any case.
