Silkworm nets are used to remove residue from silkworms. They are made of cotton or hemp yarn coated with persimmon tannin and used from the 1st to the 3rd instar. Rope nets are woven of straw, and rush nets are woven of rush, and are used until the 5th instar. During the Kyowa period, the size retailer of the mesh was changed according to the age of the silkworms.
These are thought to have been made by weaving hemp threads into a frame of rush grass.
