Stunning Large Silver Gilt PLIQUE-A-JOUR retailer BUTTERFLY Brooch

This brightly coloured silver gilt butterfly brooch is delicately enamelled with plique-a-jour* (French: ‘letting in daylight') translucent wings. It is one of a batch of enamelled brooches originally imported from China in the late 1980s and was too delicate for stamping or hallmarking. Care needs to be taken not to put pressure on the brooch when handling as the glaze may crack if the metal bends. It measures slightly over 2.5 inches between the wing tips and app. 1.9 inches from top to bottom. It weighs app.12.2 grams and is in absolutely mint condition.
