A classic doll from the iconic Sermel (or Ser-Mel) studio founded in the '60's by Sergio Bustamante and Melquiades Preciado in Tonala, Jalisco, Mexico. Their hugely popular studio was responsible for one of the most important movements of Mexican folk art, and was maintained by family members until 2013.
All Sermel art was hand-painted by a variety of artists, so each piece is unique!
This papier mâché doll is vintage from the late '60's to early '70's, is hand-painted with a gloss finish, and signed. She features gorgeous painted flower and owl designs and big sad eyes. For its age, it's in very good condition. It's in good condition with some minor paint flakes and cracks on the bottom.
