Vintage retailer “Modern Toy” Lithographed Train Engine

This is a friction toy train engine from the 40's-50's. Dead stock with the original price tags on the nose—I think it says 3.49 marked down to 1.97. There's a little rust on the back right and a couple of dents on that side as well—please look at the photos carefully. Made in Japan by Modern Toy Co. this would make an excellent addition to many retailer toy collections. It is about 19 1/2 inches long, 4 1/2 inches tall, and 3 inches wide.
