This 6.5” diameter embossed and pierced porcelain dish celebrates the “First Free Public Library Among English Speaking People” established in 1833. The Boston Store owner ordered pictorial china from Austria. The transfer was very simple and instead of hand painting the transfer, the scene was glazed or painted blue with a crescent moon blocked in to show a night scene. I have seen images of hundreds of view china items but this is the first night scene I have come across. Boston must have been the last name of the store owner if you are keen to learn about him/her as well. Piercings can hold a silk ribbon to hang it on the wall. White areas in gold stenciled design and in the sky are probably from manufacture. Wear to the lettering was probably from 100 years of dusting. No Cracks or chips. (C279K 9-7-21)
