Retailer Quirky Sterling Silver Sea Beach Pendant Necklace - Cobalt Blue & White Multi Seaham English Seaglass On 18" Chain, This beautiful piece of sea glass was found by John and Anne Armstrong on Seaham beach.
This beautiful piece of sea glass was found by John and Anne Armstrong on Seaham beach. It is a white and blue multi. I have textured and then sawn out a piece of .925 sterling silver, and created a bezel with fine silver. This pendant comes with an 18" sterling silver chain, and has been hallmarked. I have shown it beside a US dime, and a ruler (inches), for scale.
Seaham seaglass is amongst the most sought-after and beautiful in the world. The remnants from a Victorian Glassworks would be emptied into the sea at the end of the day, and over one hundred years later, those lucky enough to visit Seaham beach can find some beautiful gems. The Seaham pieces tend to be more rounded and smooth, due to the nature of the glass emptied into the sea. As these pieces were from a bottleworks, producing all sorts of different colours of glass, some rarer seaglass colours can wash up on the shore - I retailer have found pinks, blues, yellows and turquoise specimens in Seaham, although these are rarer and can take many hours of dedicated beachcombing to find! Even more special are the Seaham 'multis', or 'end of day seaglass' - sometimes, one colour of glass would be used, and then another colour used in the same pot - the remnants left behind formed layers of multi-coloured glass. When these end up in the sea, they form the highly prized End Of Day Seaglass - and there is little in this world (well, to a seaglass-lover anyway) that can outweigh the excitement of finding a really good multi on the beach.
My seaglass is mainly a combination of Seaham seaglass, and Scottish seaglass - I usually collect from the Fife beaches and the shores of Loch Tay, although Loch Tay tends to yield more sea pottery than seaglass pieces. When time permits, I travel to the fantastic Seaham beach to scour its shores for finds.
