The Tailor of Gloucester grew ill and was unable to complete a waistcoat for the Mayor of Gloucester.
But the mice of the establishment stepped in to save the day in one of beloved author Beatrix Potter's lengthiest stories, “The Tailor of Gloucester.”
This Christmas-Eve tale was first published in 1903 and was based in part on a real story.
Shown on other resale sites for more than $200, this rare ceramic music box measures nearly 6 inches tall, 7 inches wide, and 4 inches deep. In excellent vintage condition with no damage, it comes packed in a Beatrix Potter-themed gift box.
Part of the Schmid gold collection, the music box is marked No. 262-221 Taiwan, copyright 1990. It has a key on the bottom to wind the box. It plays the tune “Two For Tea.”
It has been sanitized and the music box mechanism has been oiled to assure continued smooth playing.
To play the music, simply turn the base clockwise, until a little resistance is felt. Then, place the figurine down - the music will play, and the figurine will spin. The music gradually slows until the wind-down has completed. To maintain your music box, wind it monthly...not too tight!
This music box comes with a copy of “The Tailor of Gloucester” book and a small framed copy of an illustration from the story.
Perfect for gift-giving or adding to your own collection!
