Antique 1930 Savannah Line Steamship City of Birmingham Advertising Copper Letter Opener. This is a circa 1930 advertising letter opener for the steamship S.S. City of Birmingham of the Savannah Line (or the Ocean Steamship Company of Savannah). Built in 1923 as one of the last passenger ships for the Savannah Line, the Birmingham became a cargo ship with the outbreak of World War II. She and nine on board were lost on July 30, 1942 when torpedoed by the German boat U.202. The opener is in copper and reads NEW PIER - 46 NORTH RIVER. The letter opener is in good condition, engraving still showing.

This being a vintage item it is old and pre-owned. Due to it's age vintage items are sold in “As-Is” condition.
