Original Design by Sandy Nordwall Eggers
My father was born & raised on the Red Lake Chippewa Reservation in Northern Minnesota. We would go back each year for the 4th of July
Pow Wow to visit relatives and have fun. Lots of good memories during that time! I loved listening to the drumming and singing , sometimes lasting into the night! The Chippewa vest worn by men was made with Black Velvet or velveteen with applique beadwork in the wild rose pattern, oak leaves, vines, and flower buds. The vest is hand embroidered to resemble the beadwork. I picked a modern style for this doll...so, he's wearing a T-shirt, jeans with a belt and leather moccasins with old style velvet cuffs. The drum is retailer made like the old wooden drums with rawhide covers. He even has a drumstick too!
The Chippewa Drummer No Face doll stands about 9 1/2" tall. The Drum is approximately 4 1/2" across the top , 13 1/4" circumference and 2 1/2" tall. The drum stick is approximately 3 1/4" long.
I am a member of the Red Lake Band of Chippewa and take pride in making this one of a kind doll.
