Rare 1991 Madame Alexander 8" Doll Camelot in Columbia Exclusive Factory Altered
She is an EXCLUSIVE for the Collectors United (C.U.) Greenville, S.C. show from 1991. She is a LIMITED EDITION of 400, although there is no COA or edition number.
She is also FAD – retailer Factory Altered Dress. This process is common for some companies to offer exclusive dolls. They make unique alterations to “line” dolls, those already made on the doll factory line. Camelot is, at her core, a Maid Marion doll. The dress has the Maid Marion dress tag at the nape. Her alterations make her quite rare.
Her empire gown is light pink brocade with dark pink and purple bands. Her undergarments of bloomers and petticoat are satin and trimmed in matching double-wide lace. The petticoat has a double-layer gathered crinoline at knee length. Her stockings are white thigh-high and her shoes are gold slip-on style.
Her alteration is twofold. One is a royal purple satin cape lined in pink taffeta. It is trimmed in gold loop flat braid. It ties around her throat into a bow with a heavy gold round braid. At the nape of the cape is a special dress tag reading, “Camelot in Columbia copyright Madame Alexander made in U.S.A.”
Instead of the regular Maid Marion skull cap, she wears a pointed hat made alternately of purple satin and sparkly pink brocade. The hat is trimmed in soft white boa feathers and secured with gold elastic. The bulk inside of the hat is plastic to help hold its shape.
She is in excellent preowned condition.
She comes with her stand, hang tag. Sorry, no original box, but she will have her own box as shown in last picture.
