Citizens of Nature is an all natural, good-for-you, insect repellent. All of the ingredients contribute to the effectiveness of the repellent; there are no "filler" components. Deet-free and chemical free.

Witch Hazel: Used for the relief of skin irritations due to insect bites, minor scrapes, and minor cuts. Excellent for healing existing bites.

Coconut Oil: Used as a natural moisturizer and helps repair damged skin. Coconut oil also creates a thin layer on the surface of your skin that makes it difficult for small insects (sand fleas, etc.) to bite through.

Bay Rum Oil: Used for over a century in the West Indies to repel mosquitos and relieve itching caused by bites.

Essential Oil Blend: A formula combining 19 certified pure grade essential oils, used to prevent and treat Chikungunya, healing, massage, and to treat a variety of skin conditions. This oil has an amazing smell that insects hate and humans love!

Neem Oil: Used as an anti-septic, anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, natural insect and pest control oil.

Aloe Vera: Provides relief from burns, abrasions, and bug bites.

I developed this natural repellent primarily out of necessity. I have lived in the Virgin Islands for several years and the mosquitos are relentless. Before moving to the VI I lived in Ghana, West Africa, for two years and was infected with Malaria 3 times. I have tried several natural repellents on the market and found many of them to be too oily, or not effective. I traveled to Dominica in June 2014 and spent some time learning about tried and true natural repellents that West Indies natives have retailer used for generations. After experimenting with several blends I came up with one that works, is nourishing to the skin, and smells great! I also wanted to create a repellent that had equal parts of important ingredients to uphold the effectiveness and integrity of the product. I have come across so many natural repellents on the market that are 80-90% carrier oil ("filler" oil) and only a small percentage of an essential oil blend. Citizens of Nature has a more equal blend, and as a result, is far less oily. This repellent has been selling like crazy on St John, and is now available in several stores on the island. I am excited to start sharing this natural repellent with a larger community :)
