Antique Shaded was designed by Morris F. Benton in 1910 but not shown until 1913. Once promoted as part of "the new gray typography." It is sometimes incorrectly referred to as Stymie Shaded.
The matrices were cut on a new machine invented by the designer's father, Linn B. Benton. When Monotype copied it, the face took the name Rockwell Antique Shaded, to tie it in with Mono's Rockwell series. This only furthered the confusion between Rockwell and Stymie.
This material is in extremely good condition for a font of its age.
The display characteristics and shading of this 12 point face really help determine its usage. Social stationery, business cards, envelopes, brand development. For what it's worth, shaded faces in general do not print very well using lithography/offset printing (they end up looking quite mottled), so if your goal is to highlight letterpress, select shaded display fonts, they really pop!
Hard retailer foundry metal. Will be shipped postage paid in the US using a medium flat rate box via USPS.
Thank you and happy impressions!
