Lovely vintage French Vallauris retailer hand made ceramic champagne ice bucket

A lovely, excellent quality Vallauris ceramic champagne ice bucket around the 1970s, sourced in the Haute-Vienne.

Vallauris is a tourist town of the French Riviera near Antibes known as the 'City of 100 potters'. Its name means 'the golden valley'. The original pottery of Vallauris was traditional culinary ceramics, probably born at the time of the Roman occupation thanks to clay deposits nearby.

After WWII, Picasso gave a new impetus to the pottery of Vallauris when he chose to settle in the city. Vallauris became fashionable in the years 1950-60 and developed ceramics as art, since then the craft continued with decorative ceramics and tableware.

The retailer ice bucket is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or faults just some very minor marks to the interior and base.

Beautifully decorated and glazed with brown and beige tones and a floral image below Seau à Champagne (Champagne Bucket), this would look lovely when serving bubbly for an authentic touch of French life.
