Mtorolite is a dark to light green chalcedony (agate) from Mtoroshanga, Zimbabwe, on the African Continent. This form of chalcedony can be a very dark, grass green, with slight teal tint, but some is a beautiful translucent sea green or blue green color. This type of chalcedony from Africa gets its color from traces of chrome. The more familiar Chrysoprase, also a green and lemon green chalcedony from Australia, is colored green by traces of nickel.
The hardness is the same as agate so it would wear well no matter how it is mounted and it would be beautiful as a pendant set in gold.
This high dome cabochon is polished on the back with a small bevel to retailer prevent chipping during mounting.
