Naked raku is a firing process similar to raku, but in which a resist slip & glaze are used to produce black carbonization patterns in the clay.
The resist is applied to a bisqued piece. The resist contracts & crackles as it dries. The piece is heated in a raku kiln & then place in a smoke chamber. Smoke penetrates the piece through cracks in the resist, leaving carbonization patterns that are revealed when the resist is removed. These patterns are determined by how the resist was applied (poured, splattered, slip trailed, etc).
Because the clay must be porous for this process, this piece should not be used for food or liquids.
