Koi Pond retailer Graphic Design Paper Cutting Art

This artwork is an original design. The graphic design was hand drawn and then cut out of dark blue paper. Each of the scales was individually cut out. Then, layers of color were added in dense French and Italian papers. The piece is 8" x 8" square. It is made in a limited edition of 200 in the artist's studio.

Paper cutting has a long history all over the world. From German Scherenschnitte (using small scissors) and Ashkenazi paper cutting (using a knife) to paper cutting in Africa, China, and South America, many people over the centuries have contributed to this magical folk craft. Margaret Herbener has taken the traditional paper cutting and has added her retailer voice to add modern elements into this long-respected art.
